BONN, GERMANY (November 9, 2017)—Senior representatives from Climate Action Network, World Resources Institute, We Mean Business and Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy will host a joint press conference at COP23 on Tuesday, 14 November, at 13:00 CEST to set expectations for 2018, a critical year when countries need to signal that they will ramp up their climate efforts and put the world on track to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

From President Macron’s climate summit to the Global Climate Action Summit and beyond, over the next year business, states, cities and civil society will have many occasions to demonstrate their leadership and strong commitment to advancing climate action. These efforts are helping countries achieve national climate goals and set more ambitious targets going forward.

Under the Paris Agreement, countries are expected to scale up their efforts on climate action every five years. The year-long Talanoa Dialogue will be a key opportunity for countries to take stock of progress and explore opportunities for future action. By the conclusion of COP24, countries should be ready to step up and make a clear commitment to enhance their national climate pledges by 2020.
