The World Resources Institute invites you to a talk on:

Assessing the Economic Costs of Climate Change Impacts in Europe

by Dr. Juan-Carlos Ciscar, Joint Research Centre, European Commission

The PESETA project, under the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, recently integrated a set of high-resolution climate change projections and physical models into an economic modeling framework to help quantify the impacts of climate change on some of the most vulnerable aspects of Europe.

Results of the project were used by the European Commission both as evidence for continued mitigation policies and as first cut results of the potential impacts climate change. It also provided insights for the formation of adaptation policies at the European level, especially through the Green Paper on Adaptation (2007) and the White Paper on Adaptation (2009).

The final report of the project and accompanying technical reports can be found here.

Dr. Juan-Carlos Ciscar holds a PhD degree in economics, Universidad de Valencia, and a postgraduate degree in finance and monetary economics at CEMFI (Bank of Spain). Previously he worked at the Ministry of Economics & Finance of Spain. At JRC-IPTS he deals with energy-economy-environment models, working with the general equilibrium GEM-E3 model, and modeling the economics of climate change. He coordinated the PESETA project on the impacts of climate change in Europe.

Light refreshments will be served.
