In January at the World Economic Forum in Davos, participants focused on resilient economic practices. Resiliency is critical as we face the climate extremes of "too hot, too wet, too dry," and the many challenges each extreme creates. As the 2013 planting season begins across North America and the northern hemisphere, we are facing another year of severe drought due to more weather extremes.

In the lead-up to World Water Day on March 22, the Daugherty Water for Food Institute and the Global Harvest Initiative will bring experts together to discuss global water, food security, and climate change challenges, including how farmers across the globe will cope with a changing climate and produce enough food to feed growing populations.

Panelists will include:

  • Paul Weisenfeld, USAID Assistant to the Administrator in the Bureau for Food Security;

  • Mark Svoboda, National Drought Mitigation Center Climatologist, University of Nebraska-Lincoln;

  • Manish Bapna, World Resources Institute Executive Vice President and Managing Director; and

  • Claudia Garcia, DVM, Elanco Senior Director of Global Corporate Affairs
