On Thursday, September 11, WRI hosted a special briefing in Washington, D.C. for the Global Shale Gas Development: Water Availability and Business Risks. This analysis, authored by experts from the World Resources Institute, was the first to show how freshwater availability could limit shale oil and gas development in many parts of the world.

Policy makers, energy companies, investors, and civil society groups should view this report as an essential resource to help protect water security while promoting energy security through shale resource development internationally.

Lead author Paul Reig detailed the report’s findings, conducted a tutorial for the interactive web map accompanying the report, and answered questions.
